St. Barnabas to host Advent concert

PORTSMOUTH – St. Barnabas Parish, 1697 East Main Road, will host an “Advent Evening of Song and Reflection,” Nov. 30, 7 p.m., in the church. The concert will feature Dan Schutte, composer-in-residence at the University of San Francisco and composer of worship music for more than four decades. Songs of Advent and Faith with John Polce

FOSTER – In preparation for Christmas, St. Paul the Apostle Parish, 116A Danielson Pike, will present a concert entitled “Songs of Advent and Faith,” Dec. 16, noon, in the church. The concert will be presented by John Polce, well-known composer and musician. A free will offering will be collected to benefit North Foster Baptist Church’s repainting project. ‘Morning Inspiration for Women’

TIVERTON – St. Theresa Church, 265 Stafford Road, will offer “Morning Inspiration for Women,” Dec. 1, beginning with coffee at 8:30 a.m. Local author Genevieve Kineke will offer an Advent meditation entitled “All is Calm, All is Bright.” In light of the challenge to welcome the birth of Jesus during a season filled with stress and a full calendar, the author will offer practical wisdom in light of our faith. St. William Parish announces Christmas events

WARWICK – St. William Parish, 200 Pettaconsett Ave., will hold a Christmas concert, Dec. 1, 6:30 p.m., in the church. The concert will include performances by the Rhode Island College Chamber Singers and the parish choir. A reception in the parish hall will follow; a free will offering will be collected. The parish will sponsor a Christmas breakfast, Dec. 9, 7:30-9 a.m., in the parish center. The event will include a bake sale and raffles; tickets must be purchased in advance. St. Charles to present Vatican II discussion

WOONSOCKET – St. Charles Borromeo Church, 190 North Main St., will host a discussion on the Second Vatican II Council and its effects on the world, Dec. 2, 3 p.m., in the lower church hall. Father John Kiley will review council teachings on the nature of the church and the council’s influence on Catholics; Father Edward St-Godard will speak about the council’s teachings on the relationship of the Catholic Church to other Christian churches, and to other world religions, while Father Dennis Reardon will address the council’s teaching on the liturgy and the way it has affected Catholics during the last half century. St. Kevin Parish to present Christmas concert

WARWICK – St. Kevin Parish, 333 Sandy Lane, will present a Christmas concert, Dec. 7, 7 p.m., in the church. The concert will include performances by the St. Kevin Adult and St. Rita choirs, Youth on Fire, and the Bishop Hendricken Young Men’s Choir. Many former pastors of the parish will attend, and there will be an appearance by Santa Claus. Following the concert, a reception will be held in the church hall. Providence College to present Lessons and Carols

PROVIDENCE – Providence College’s signature annual Advent celebration, An Advent Service of Lessons and Carols, will be celebrated Dec. 1, 7 p.m., in St. Dominic Chapel, One Cunningham Square. A reception will immediately follow in the Campus Ministry Center. Dominican Father Brian J. Shanley, college president, will preside at the service. Students, faculty, and staff will read Scriptures from the Old and New Testaments. ‘Glorify’ to present evening of praise and worship
