St. Charles Borromeo to honor namesake

PROVIDENCE – St. Charles Borromeo Church, 178 Dexter St., will honor its patron saint with a bilingual Mass in Spanish and English, Nov. 4, 7 p.m. Following Mass, adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will continue until Sunday, Nov. 6, concluding with a bilingual Mass, 11 a.m., followed by a procession with the Blessed Sacrament through the neighborhood streets. Villa plans November open houses

St. Brendan Parish plans fundraiser

EAST PROVIDENCE – The parishioners of St. Brendan Church will host a dinner to benefit Mike Palumbo, a longtime member of the parish who suffers from lung cancer. The event will be held Nov. 5, 6 p.m., in the parish hall, 60 Turner Ave., and will include a buffet dinner, entertainment, raffles and children’s activities. Columbiettes seek new members

EAST PROVIDENCE – The Columbiettes of Bishop Hickey Council, No. 3623, Knights of Columbus, invite all interested Catholic women age 18 and older to join the organization. World Apostolate of Fatima to offer program, book signing

GREENVILLE – The Rhode Island division of the World Apostolate of Fatima will present Father Andrew Apostoli, a world renowned Fatima authority, Nov.4-5, at St. Philip Church, 622 Putnam Pike. Father Apostoli, a frequent television presenter, is the vice postulator for the Beatification of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheehan, and the author of the new book “Fatima for Today: An Urgent Message of Hope.” The program will begin on Nov. 4, with a Holy Hour, 6 p.m., followed by Mass, 7 p.m., and a presentation by Father Apostoli and book signing. ‘Be Not Afraid’ ministry training

PROVIDENCE – “Be Not Afraid” is a program and a network of concerned clergy, parents and professionals who have individuals within their parish communities who have experienced a poor prenatal diagnosis (PPD). Training for this new ministry in the diocese will be provided through the Office of Life and Family Ministry. The first training session will be held on Friday, Nov. 4 from 1-2:30 p.m. for clergy only. The second session will be held on Saturday, Nov. 5, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for laity. Both sessions will be held at the Diocese of Providence office building located at One Cathedral Square, Providence. The presenter is Sandy Buck of the “Be Not Afraid” ministry. She will help clergy learn ways to approach this delicate issue and peer ministers will learn how to understand and reach out to parents with sensitivity who are experiencing a PPD and help them to learn affirmations to encourage them to carry to full term.
