St. Rita’s Women’s Club to host Autumn Bazaar

WARWICK — St. Rita’s Women’s Club will host an Autumn Bazaar on Saturday, Oct. 1 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the William Shields Post #43, 662 West Shore Road. The bazaar will feature lunch, custom crafts, penny social, raffles, baked goods and much more.

‘Night of Thanks’ to benefit Assumption Parish Food Ministry

PROVIDENCE — The Home Loan Foundation, founded by Home Loan Investment Bank, will host its 5th annual fundraiser to benefit the Assumption Parish Food Ministry on Thursday, Nov. 17 from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. This partnership has resulted in nearly $200,000 donated to the Food Ministry on behalf of the Home Loan Foundation. This year’s event, “A Night of Thanks,” will feature music from John Scotti, a raffle, cocktails, and hors d’oeuvres prepared by culinary arts students at the Genesis Center, an organization that provides education, job training and support services to people of diverse cultures so that they may achieve economic independence and participate fully in society. Guests are also encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to help fill the Food Ministry’s Thanksgiving baskets, which will be distributed to more than 1,000 families before the holiday. Pet Blessing in honor of St. Francis of Assisi Feast Day

NEWPORT — The annual Pet Blessing in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals, will be held on Oct. 2 at noon at the gazebo in King Park, at the corner of Clinton Street and Wellington Avenue. St. Xavier Academy to sponsor Homecoming

WARWICK — The Class of 1966, St. Xavier Academy, is seeking classmates to celebrate their 50th Year Anniversary at the annual Homecoming and Reunion on Sunday, Oct. 30. 40 Days for Life Fall Campaign begins

PROVIDENCE — The Office of Life and Family Ministry and R.I. Right to Life will be co-sponsoring the fall campaign beginning Wednesday, Sept. 28 through Sunday, Nov. 6. The office requests parishes to adopt a day, or for individuals to adopt an hour for a peaceful prayer vigil at Planned Parenthood, 111 Point St., Providence or the Women’s Medical Clinic, 1725 Broad St., Cranston during this 40-day period. Life Chain Sunday to take place around the diocese

PROVIDENCE — The Office of Life and Family Ministry encourages prayer and worship during the month of October for all human life. On October 2 from 2 to 3 p.m. there will be Life Chains (a peaceful prayer vigil) in various areas of the diocese. Daughters of Isabella plan Living Rosary for Peace

WARWICK — The Daughters of Isabella St. Benedict Circle #423 will host a Living Rosary for Peace on Saturday, Oct. 15, at 2:30 p.m. at St. Benedict Parish, 135 Beach Ave. Sixty representatives are needed for each bead. Islam focus of series at St. Gregory the Great

WARWICK — St. Gregory the Great Parish, 360 Cowesett Road, will host a three-part adult education series, ‘Understanding Islam,’ in the parish center on October 4, 11, and 18 from 7 – 8:15 p.m. The parish Social Action committee is hosting this series as a way to enlighten the parish and the community about one of the world’s most important religions. The sessions will be led by J. Edward Sirois. Sirois has had a long career teaching at LaSalle Academy and is an adjunct professor at several area universities. St. Theresa and St. Christopher parishes to host upcoming events

TIVERTON — St. Theresa and St. Christopher parishes will host the following events: On Friday, Oct. 7, 6:30 p.m. at St. Christopher Hall, 1554 Main Road, will be a lecture on the Blessed Mother presented by Lisa Mladinich who has appeared on various EWTN shows and writes for Catechist magazine. St. Brigid’s to sell tickets for their 20 Week Club

JOHNSTON — The Committee of the 20 Week Club of St. Brigid’s Church, 1231 Plainfield St., will begin selling tickets prior and after the Saturday 5 p.m. Mass, and Sundays at their 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. Masses beginning on the weekend of October 1, ending November 6 when the first drawing will take place. There will be 30 weekly drawings and 8 grand prizes, along with a luncheon on April 30 for members in good standing at the Alpine Country Club. Rosary Rally and Silver Rose at St. Mark Church

CRANSTON — The first event is “America needs Fatima, Rosary Rally” will take place on Saturday, Oct. 15 at noon at St. Mark Church at the statue of Our Blessed Mother which is located in front of the Mother Cabrini Parish Center. St. Pius to offer Divine Mercy series

PROVIDENCE — St. Pius V Church will host a 4-part series on Divine Mercy on Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m. beginning October 19 and concluding November 9. The series is based on the video “The Second Greatest Story Ever Told” by Father Michael Gaitley, MIC, and will offer an opportunity for prayer and discussion as we bring the Jubilee of Mercy to a close.

Saint Francis of Assisi Church to host upcoming events in celebration of patron

WAKEFIELD — Saint Francis of Assisi Church will celebrate their patron saint with a variety of activities. On October 14, the annual pasta dinner will be held at Father Greenan Hall. Tickets will be available after Masses and at the rectory. A basket raffle will take place along with the 50/50 Super Raffle. In anticipation of 1,000 tickets being sold, prizes of $10,000 will be awarded. Tickets can be purchased at the rectory and after all Masses. The 5K race for runners and walkers returns on Saturday morning, October 15, at 9 a.m. Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female runners along various age groups. Open House at Saint Raphael Academy on October 2

Sacred Heart annual Golf Tournament

WARWICK — The Sacred Heart annual Golf Tournament will take place on Monday, Oct. 3, at the Valley Country Club. The stay will start with a putting contest at 11 a.m., followed by lunch. PC to host international conference on 'Age of European Expansion'

PROVIDENCE — As part of the 800th anniversary of the Order of Preachers as well as the 100th anniversary of Providence College, the College invites interested scholars to the international conference, “Bartolomé de Las Casas, O.P. History, Philosophy, and Theology in the Age of European Expansion,” which will be held at the campus from October 7-9. The conference invites presentations about the age of European expansion into the Atlantic World — Europe, Africa and America — as well as Asia. The conference takes the opportunity to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the first conversion of Bartolomé de las Casas (2014) and hopes to elicit scholarly reflection on the themes of contact, conquest, coloni​zation, and conversion. The conference will consist of scholarly panels as well as special plenary sessions by leading scholars. Papers will be delivered in Spanish and English.

Classic Car Show to Benefit The Villa at Saint Antoine

NORTH SMITHFIELD — The Villa of Saint Antoine to invite the public to its Second Classic Car Show on Saturday, October 1 from 4 to 6 p.m.. More than 40 cars will be displayed throughout the Villa grounds and courtyard, located on 400 Mendon Road in North Smithfield, giving visitors and residents the opportunity to view some great classic cars of all ages, new and old, domestic and imports.
