Abortion should not be a litmus test for selecting judges

TO THE EDITOR:

There has been much discussion about abortion, but it seems that the evil of abortion has not been aggressively articulated. Human Life is sacred because from its beginning it involves the creative action of God and it remains forever in a special relationship with the Creator, who is the sole end. God alone is the Lord of life from its beginning until its end: no one can under any circumstance claim for himself the right directly to destroy an innocent human being.

The fifth commandment says: Thou shall not kill. So, everyone who performs an abortion or gets an abortion is committing something “gravely contrary to the moral law” as it is stated in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Since this is the case I would imagine this grave sin applies also to those who enable abortion to occur.

It is really sad that we now live in a country that has made whether a child in the womb should or should not be murdered a litmus test for selecting judges. God said in the Bible: Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you (Jer1:5). I would think most followers of God should cringe at this reality because it does not bode well for our future. My advice is that you not support this murderous act and seek reconciliation with God if you do. It is your future and the future of this country that is at stake.
