On Sunday, June 3, the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, the inaugural celebration of the 175th Anniversary of St. Mary Church, West Warwick, was held. The day included a Holy Hour, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, the Rosary, readings from Sacred Scripture, homily, Litany of Loreto and Solemn Benediction. Father Douglas J. Spina, pastor of the church, was the principal celebrant and homilist. During his homily, Father Spina said, “We have gathered here, on this hallowed earth, during the best of times, during the worst of times. We have embraced, comforted and encouraged one another, petitioning the Lord for each other’s welfare and growth as human persons, as families, as a community, a nation, as disciples of Christ. Clearly, church revolves around relationships, God’s relationship with creation, with us, our relationship with God and neighbor.” Following the Holy Hour, the blessing of the outdoor statue of St. Francis of Assisi, dedicated to the memory of Father Paul Francis Reynolds, took place. A reception followed in Father Gibson Hall. Many parishioners and friends attended, including Father Reynolds’ sister and family members. St. Mary Church maintains the oldest continuously operating church in the diocese The 175th Anniversary Concelebrated Mass is scheduled for Sunday, May 5, 2019 at noon. Bishop Thomas J. Tobin will be celebrant and homilist at the Mass. Following the Mass, the Diamond Jubilee Dinner-Dance will take place at the Cranston Country Club.
