LETTER TO THE EDITOR

A most unfortunate choice of words

Posted

To the Editor:

With respect to Allen M. Maynard's concern for fidelity to the rubrics mandated by "Paschales Solemnitatis"(RI Catholic, April 3), I certainly hope that his characterization of what washing women's feet might bring to this beautiful tradition is unintended. If one follows the logic of his other statements, one can only assume that the inclusion of women would be both undignified and frivolous, not to mention abusive to the Church. Ouch! That's pretty harsh, Mr. Maynard. While your faithfulness may be cause for admiration, your choice of words in voicing it leaves much to be desired.
