A Marian Celebration

Posted

Parishioners and visitors gathered at St. Elizabeth Church, Bristol, for a holy hour on Thursday, July 13, one of several monthly celebrations to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the apparitions at Fatima and the diocesan Year with Mary our Mother. Father John Carlos DeSousa, administrator at Holy Cross and St. Anthony Churches in Harrison and East Newark, New Jersey, offered a homily on the apparitions, which took place in the midst of World War I. “Who else but the Blessed Virgin Mary to make herself present to the world when God’s precious world was being torn apart by his favorite creature, man?” he said.

Upcoming celebrations are as follows: Sunday, August 13, at 7 p.m. at St. Anthony Church, West Warwick; Wednesday, September 13 at 7 p.m. at St. Thomas Church, Warren; Friday, October 13, at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Providence, followed by candlelight procession.
