Lenten Parish Mission to preach on ‘Mary, the Model of Discipleship’

RUMFORD — Father Jeremy Rodrigues, S.T.L., Director of the Office of Worship, will preach the 2017 Lenten Mission at St. Margaret Parish, 1098 Pawtucket Ave. Celebrating the Marian Year in the Diocese of Providence, Father Rodrigues will preach on “Mary, the Model of Discipleship.” The mission will be on March 19, 20 & 21 at 7 p.m. Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament will conclude the mission on Tuesday evening. All are welcome.

Young Adults: Theology on Tap to discuss the ‘Pursuit of Happiness’

PROVIDENCE — Young Adults, single or married, in their 20s and 30s are invited to Theology on Tap, on Thursday, March 2, from 6 – 8:30 p.m., at The Malted Barley, 334 Westminster St. Come for fellowship at 6 p.m. followed by a presentation and Q&A at 7 p.m. The topic will be “Pursuit of Happiness,” presented by Father Christopher Murphy, assistant vocation director for the Diocese of Providence. There is no fee for this event. A free will donation will be collected. Participants are welcome to purchase food and beverages and must be 21 to order alcoholic beverages. Eucharistic Ministers needed at Rhode Island Hospital

PROVIDENCE — Rhode Island Hospital is looking for Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist to administer Holy Communion to Catholic patients. Those interested may choose the day and time of your ministry. Training is held at the hospital. Monthly Grief Support Group meeting at The Villa at Saint Antoine

NORTH SMITHFIELD — Hope Hospice & Palliative Care Rhode Island will offer an off-site monthly general grief support group meeting at the Villa at Saint Antoine, 400 Mendon Road, open to any person experiencing the profound effects of loss and grief. Meetings are happening on the second Wednesday of the month from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the following dates: March 8, April 12 and May 10. The Center for Hope & Healing support groups are facilitated as mutual support groups and participants do not have to have lost a loved one while in the care of Hope Hospice & Palliative Care Rhode Island. Marian Theatre Project to be featured at Jesus Saviour Church

NEWPORT— The Rosary Sodality will host the Marian Theatre Project on Sunday, March 5, following the 10 a.m. Mass, at Jesus Saviour Church, One Vernon Ave. Elizabeth Montigny will present “Walking With Our Mother,” a scripture-based presentation on the Passion of Jesus, through the eyes of the Blessed Mother. This performance is about 20 minutes in length and appropriate for ages 13 and older. Refreshments following. All are invited.

Prayer Shawl Ministry to sponsor Mass of Anointing of the Sick

JOHNSTON — The Prayer Shawl Ministry of St. Brigid’s Church, 1231 Plainfield St., will sponsor their quarterly Mass of Anointing of the sick on Saturday, March 4, at 11 a.m. Anyone preparing for surgery, suffering from a chronic illness, elderly or experiencing spiritual and emotional pain is invited to come and pray for healing. Brown – RISD Catholic Community to host lecture on the Catholic Church and Evolution

Bishop Tobin to lead Parish Mission at SS. John & Paul Church

COVENTRY — Bishop Thomas J. Tobin will host the annual Parish Mission at SS. John & Paul Church, from Sunday, March 5 through Wednesday, March 8 on “Lent: A Journey from Sin to Grace and from Death to Life.” Bishop Tobin will preach at the 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Masses on Sunday; the mission will begin at 7 p.m. each evening, Monday through Wednesday, with the Sacrament of Reconciliation offered at the Tuesday mission. Saint Christopher Church to host Lenten movie nights

TIVERTON — Saint Christopher Church will host Lenten movie nights on Tuesday, March 7, “Mary of Nazareth,” and Tuesday March 21, “Road of Hope,” a film about the spiritual journey of Vietnamese Cardinal Nguyen Van Thuan who was imprisoned for 13 years. Both movie nights will begin at 6 p.m. in the rectory.

Masses for Recovery scheduled

WEST WARWICK — The next Mass for Recovery will take place on Sunday, Feb. 26, at 5 p.m., at Mary’s Church, 68 Church St. This quarterly Mass is part of the St. Matthias Ministry of the Diocese of Providence. It focuses on assisting with prayer and encouragement to all who are recovering from addictions of any kind, as well as those suffering from any mental or emotional distress or anxiety. It is also for those who are friends and family of those in recovery, as they too benefit from coming together in prayer and praise of our God who brings healing to all. This Mass will also include an opportunity for the Anointing of the Sick. Gregorian Concert Choir and Festival Orchestra to present concert for the Blessed Mother

PROVIDENCE — The Gregorian Concert Choir and Festival Orchestra will present a concert entitled “Sing of Mary” at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, on Saturday, March 18, at 7 p.m. The concert will be given in celebration of ‘A Year with Mary our Mother, announced by Bishop Thomas J. Tobin for the Diocese of Providence. Throughout the centuries, artists, writers and composers have created beautiful images and sounds to honor the mother of God. The concert will feature Marian music beginning with the Gregorian chant as well as classical and contemporary works composed to honor the holy mother of God.
