A Month of the Rosary

Posted

The month of October is traditionally dedicated to the holy rosary. The four weeks ahead represent a privileged time of the year for Catholics to recommit themselves to this prayer indispensable for Christian life.

Popes throughout the centuries have recommended even the daily recitation of the rosary. How different a world we would live in if Catholics rediscovered the value of the rosary? How different would families and communities be if the rosary was prayed more often?

With the rosary, the faithful turn to Mary to meditate with her on the mysteries of her son’s life. Through the eyes of faith — which are the eyes of Mary — Catholics look to Jesus and the events of His life. They find in the mysteries of the rosary the truth about their salvation and God’s love for the world.

The Church has asked that Catholics pray the rosary especially for peace in the world and for the family. These two intentions — peace and the family — stand at the center of the New Evangelization and the tranquil world we all seek. Neither peace in the world nor an embrace of the truth about marriage and the family will come through our work alone. Instead, dedicated prayer — especially the daily rosary — represents the only means to bring them about.

October stands as an opportunity to embrace again or for the first time the daily recitation of the rosary. It is for our good and that of the whole world.
