A recent headline in a Catholic website caught my attention: “Trust evaporating – Poll finds clergy trustworthiness slips precipitously.” The poll surveyed attitudes about the clergy in Canada. According to the survey, 61 percent of Canadians trust church representatives, far below the 97 percent who trust firefighters and the 94 percent who trust nurses. The good news in this poll, if there is any, is that clergy still rank above the pollsters themselves (59 percent), journalists (48 percent) and politicians (just 15 percent). Small comfort it seems. more

A letter to the editor argues that it does. I propose that there is a complimentarity between marriage and celibacy which enables the Church to love fully. more

The Lay Day of Fast to Support Our Priests will be held on October 20 from dawn to 3 p.m. Closing services will include exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Rosary for Priests, and a closing Benediction, when all priests will be offered into Our Blessed Lady’s care and protection. more
Truth in advertising has long been practiced by businesses trying to sell themselves and their wares to the public. The principle can also be applied to colleges and universities in their recruitment of prospective students, and should certainly be a practice of those institutions that identify themselves as Catholic. more
